Every HDMI problem starts with a conversation you never get to hear. The moment you plug a player, console or PC into a TV, projector or AV receiver, the two ends exchange a list of capabilities called the EDID: which resolutions the display accepts, which HDR formats it understands, which audio formats it can decode. Your source reads that list and picks what to send. When the picture stays black, when 4K120 refuses to appear, when VRR is greyed out or Dolby Atmos disappears behind the receiver, the cause is almost always hidden in that exchange — and you are left swapping cables and power cycling boxes in the dark.
The HDfury DR HDMI 8K makes that conversation visible, and puts you in charge of it. It is an HDMI 2.1 EDID manager, EDID emulator and repeater in a 10 × 6 cm metal box that sits between source and display at the full 48Gbps of the standard (FRL6, 1500MHz), carrying up to 4K120 4:4:4 10-bit and 8K60 4:2:0 10-bit without touching the picture or the sound. The blue OLED on top shows the live link rate and what each side is asking for. The built-in web server, reachable from any browser on your network, shows the whole EDID of both ends next to each other.
And then you decide. Mirror the display's own EDID, load one of 100 stored tables, upload an EDID file of your own, or keep the real EDID and flip single flags: cap the FRL rate, switch VRR and ALLM on or off, advertise HDR10 or HDR10+ with or without HLG, hand the source the display's Dolby Vision block while the AVR keeps the audio, or take a capability away to see what changes. Troubleshooting stops being guesswork and becomes a series of deliberate tests: change one thing, read the result, move on. Integrators use it to make stubborn installations behave; home cinema owners use it to get the picture and sound their gear was supposed to deliver in the first place.
What it does
- Reads and rewrites the EDID. Copy the EDID of your display or AVR, load one of 100 stored tables, upload your own EDID file, or keep the sink EDID and override single flags with AutoMix.
- Controls what the source sees. Cap the advertised FRL rate, switch VRR and ALLM on or off, set HDR10 or HDR10+ with or without HLG, or take HDR out of the picture entirely.
- Handles Dolby Vision and LLDV. Capture the display's Dolby Vision data block, reuse it when an AVR joins the chain, or build a custom block with your own primaries and luminance values.
- Shows the link status. The 1″ blue OLED pages through the incoming FRL rate, the RX and TX EDID, and unit information such as firmware version, serial number and IP address.
- Boosts and re-clocks the signal. An HDMI 2.1 repeater with Equalevel equalisation on input and output, for long or difficult cable runs.
- Passes audio through untouched. PCM up to 192kHz, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X, DD+, DSD, DST and HBR — no down-conversion.
Where it earns its place
- No signal or a black screen after a format change. Start from a known EDID, then test one capability at a time instead of swapping cables in the dark.
- 4K120 or VRR that never shows up. Advertise the mode on purpose and see whether the source reacts.
- Dolby Vision or Atmos lost behind an AVR. Give the source the display's own DV block while the AVR keeps the audio.
- Long copper, active or fibre runs. The repeater stage plus a controlled EDID removes two variables at once.
- Mixed installs. Consoles, streamers, HTPCs, projectors and matrix switches that each read the chain differently.
Control from the sofa or the rack
Connect the RJ45 port and the built-in web server opens in any browser, with DHCP or a fixed address. Every setting is available there, and installers can drive the unit over IP or Telnet (port 2201 by default) from a control system. A rotary switch on the unit itself covers the same EDID modes when no network is around.

Frequently asked questions
What does an EDID manager actually do?
Every display and AV receiver stores an EDID: a list of the resolutions, HDR formats and audio formats it accepts. Your source reads that list and picks what to send. DR HDMI 8K sits in between, so you decide which list the source reads — the real one, one of 100 stored tables, or the real one with single flags changed.
Does it convert or downscale anything?
No. Video and audio pass through unchanged; the unit repeats and equalises the signal and controls the EDID. Audio is never down-converted, so Dolby TrueHD, Atmos and DTS:X keep their original form.
Will it give me 4K120 or 8K60 on hardware that does not support it?
No. The maximum formats are 4K120 4:4:4 10-bit, 8K60 4:2:0 10-bit and 8K30 4:2:2 12-bit over the 48Gbps FRL6 link, but source, display and cable must each support the mode you ask for. What the unit adds is a way to see which side falls short.
Does it add input lag?
Input lag is below 1 ms, so it is suitable for gaming chains with VRR and ALLM.
How do I update the firmware?
Through the built-in web server over Ethernet. The firmware files and the release notes are on the downloads page, and the manual chapter on firmware updates walks through the steps.
Do I need a network connection?
Not for the basic EDID modes, which you can set with the rotary switch on the unit. Connect the RJ45 port and you also get the web interface, the Dolby Vision editor, config export and IP or Telnet control.
